Rotation Description

During your Anesthesiology clinical rotation with FMG Portal, you will gain exposure to the perioperative care of patients undergoing various surgical procedures outside of the traditional hospital setting.

Additionally, your performance during this rotation will lead to obtaining a US LOR, which is essential for your upcoming residency program applications.

Here’s a detailed overview of what you should expect to learn. Please note that all rotations will have variations of patients and may not include the entirety of the following:

Preoperative Assessment:

  • Conducting thorough preoperative evaluations to assess the patient’s medical history, current health status, and any potential risk factors.
  • Learning to identify and mitigate potential anesthesia-related complications or adverse events.

Anesthesia Techniques:

  • Understanding different types of anesthesia, including general anesthesia, regional anesthesia (such as epidurals and nerve blocks), and sedation techniques.
  • Observing and potentially assisting in the administration of various anesthesia modalities tailored to the patient’s needs and surgical requirements.

Patient Safety and Quality Improvement:

  • Emphasizing patient safety practices, including proper patient positioning, infection control measures, and medication safety protocols.

  • Participating in quality improvement initiatives to enhance the delivery of anesthesia care and minimize adverse events.
