Attending Introduction
A highly experienced anesthesiologist and pain management specialist. Earned their MD from Georgetown University Medical School, where they completed residency in Anesthesiology and served as Chief Resident at Georgetown University Hospital.
With over 20 years as a hospital-based anesthesiologist, held leadership roles as Chairman and Vice-Chairman of two community hospital departments. A Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology, now focuses on non-invasive pain management.
Also an Editor of the Psychology and Behavioral Science International Journal and a member of the American Society for Lasers in Medicine and Surgery, the International Association for the Study of Pain, and the American Academy of Pain Management.

Rotation Description
Additionally, your performance during this rotation will lead to obtaining a US LOR, which is essential for your upcoming residency program applications.
Comprehensive Pain Assessment:

Pain Evaluation: Learning to conduct thorough assessments of patients’ pain complaints, including pain history, location, intensity, quality, aggravating and alleviating factors, and impact on daily functioning.

Physical Examination: Developing skills in performing focused physical examinations relevant to pain syndromes, including neurological assessments and musculoskeletal evaluations.
Multimodal Pain Management:

Pharmacotherapy: Understanding the pharmacological management of pain, including the use of non-opioid analgesics, opioids, adjuvant medications (such as antidepressants and anticonvulsants), and the principles of opioid stewardship.

Interventional Procedures: Exposure to various interventional pain management techniques, such as nerve blocks, epidural steroid injections, radiofrequency ablation, spinal cord stimulation, and joint injections.

Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation: Recognizing the role of physical therapy, occupational therapy, and other rehabilitative modalities in pain management and functional restoration.
Patient-Centered Care:

Shared Decision-Making: Emphasizing the importance of involving patients in treatment decisions, setting realistic goals, and addressing patient preferences and concerns.

Cultural Competence: Recognizing the influence of cultural beliefs, values, and practices on pain perception and management, and delivering culturally sensitive care.

Patient Appointments:
Conducting initial and follow-up appointments, managing acute and chronic conditions, and performing routine health maintenance.
