After completing ophthalmology residency at Tulane, was invited to join the medical staff, where they taught surgical techniques to ophthalmology residents. Is a diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology and serves as an adjunct clinical professor at the University of Illinois in Chicago.

Rotation Description

During your Ophthalmology clinical rotation with FMG Portal, you will gain broad exposure to diagnosing and managing a variety of eye conditions in the clinical setting.

Additionally, your performance during this rotation will lead to obtaining a US LOR, which is essential for your upcoming residency program applications.

Here’s a detailed overview of what you should expect to learn. Please note that all rotations will have variations of patients and may not include the entirety of the following:

Objectives:

  • Clinical Skills: Develop proficiency in performing comprehensive eye exams, including visual acuity tests, slit-lamp examinations, and fundoscopy.

  • Diagnosis: Learn to identify and differentiate common ocular conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and conjunctivitis.

  • Management: Gain knowledge of treatment options for various eye conditions, including medical, surgical, and laser therapies.

  • Patient Interaction: Enhance communication skills with patients, particularly in taking detailed histories and explaining diagnoses and treatment plans.

Daily Activities:

  • Patient Consultations: Perform initial evaluations of patients under supervision, including history taking and physical examination.

  • Procedures: Observe minor procedures such as intravitreal injections, laser treatments, and minor surgical interventions.

  • Diagnostic Tests: Learn to interpret results from diagnostic tests such as visual field tests, optical coherence tomography (OCT), and fluorescein angiography.

Skills Developed:

  • Technical Skills: Mastery of ophthalmic instruments and techniques for eye examinations.

  • Analytical Skills: Ability to critically analyze symptoms, examination findings, and diagnostic test results to formulate differential diagnoses.
