Attending Introduction
Board-certified ophthalmologist with specialized fellowship training in glaucoma, has over 14 years of clinical experience treating a wide range of eye conditions both medically and surgically. Has a particular interest in managing glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, also an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Glaucoma Society, Ophthalmic Women Leaders, and the Institute for Functional Medicine.
Has been Assistant Professor at the University Of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Dept of Surgery and also at the State University of New York Buffalo, Ross Eye Institute.
Rotation Description
Additionally, your performance during this rotation will lead to obtaining a US LOR, which is essential for your upcoming residency program applications.
Objectives:

Clinical Skills: Develop proficiency in performing comprehensive eye exams, including visual acuity tests, slit-lamp examinations, and fundoscopy.

Diagnosis: Learn to identify and differentiate common ocular conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and conjunctivitis.

Management: Gain knowledge of treatment options for various eye conditions, including medical, surgical, and laser therapies.

Patient Interaction: Enhance communication skills with patients, particularly in taking detailed histories and explaining diagnoses and treatment plans.
Daily Activities:

Patient Consultations: Perform initial evaluations of patients under supervision, including history taking and physical examination.

Procedures: Observe minor procedures such as intravitreal injections, laser treatments, and minor surgical interventions.

Diagnostic Tests: Learn to interpret results from diagnostic tests such as visual field tests, optical coherence tomography (OCT), and fluorescein angiography.

Typical Activities/Procedures
Patient Appointments:
Conducting initial and follow-up appointments, managing acute and chronic conditions, and performing routine health maintenance.

LORs are on the official clinic letterhead. You may also ask the attending to include hospital affiliations on your LOR, and you can also mention them on your CV and Personal Statement.
