Rotation Description

During your Pediatric Urology clinical rotation with FMG Portal, you will gain specialized knowledge and skills related to the diagnosis and management of urological conditions in pediatric patients.
Additionally, your performance during this rotation will lead to obtaining a US LOR, which is essential for your upcoming residency program applications.
Here’s a detailed overview of what you should expect to learn. Please note that all rotations will have variations of patients and may not include the entirety of the following:

Common Pediatric Urological Conditions:

Learning about common pediatric urological conditions such as hypospadias, undescended testes, vesicoureteral reflux, urinary tract infections, and congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract (CAKUT).

Diagnostic Evaluation:

Gaining proficiency in the diagnostic evaluation of pediatric urological conditions, including history-taking, physical examination techniques, and interpretation of imaging studies (ultrasound, voiding cystourethrogram, renal scans, etc.).

Patient Communication and Family-Centered Care:

  • Developing communication skills to effectively communicate with pediatric patients and their families, addressing their concerns, and providing education about the diagnosis and treatment plan.

  • Understanding the importance of family-centered care and the psychosocial aspects of managing pediatric urological conditions.
A Pediatric Urology clinical rotation will provide you with specialized training in the diagnosis, management, and surgical treatment of urological conditions in pediatric patients, preparing you for a future career in pediatric urology or general pediatrics.
